Calpro is a leading Norwegian biotech company dedicated to advancing diagnostics through Calprotectin, a key biomarker for intestinal inflammation. We recently merged with Creonate (UK) and are proud to be part of EkteDx, strengthening our global reach and innovation capabilities.

Our Story
Pioneering Calprotectin Diagnostics
1980–1984: The Discovery
Research began in 1980 when Inge Dale and Magne K. Fagerhol identified a unique protein in leukocytes. By 1983, the protein was named Calprotectin after studies revealed its calcium-binding properties and antimicrobial effects. In 1984, quantitative methods for measuring Calprotectin were established, laying the foundation for future diagnostics.
1993–2000: Commercialization and Innovation
Calpro AS was founded in 1993, and the first commercial ELISA kit for fecal Calprotectin was launched in 1994. In 2000, improved assay technology set the industry standard with a recommended cutoff of 50 mg/kg, enhancing diagnostic accuracy for IBD.
2016: Digital Transformation
The CalproSmart® rapid test was introduced, enabling patients to monitor IBD treatment at home using a smartphone—bringing convenience and proactive care to the forefront.
2017: Strategic Growth
Calpro became part of Svar Life Science Group, strengthening its global presence and research capabilities.
2025: A New Era
Calpro merged with Creonate (UK) and became part of EkteDx family, creating a powerful alliance focused on innovation, connectivity, and global expansion in precision diagnostics.
